KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH invests in its German sites and strengthens future technologies
Kyoto/Esslingen, 30th September 2026. As part of the European growth and investment strategy, KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH is continuing to expand its German production and technology sites. The company is installing a new press at its Selb site, whilst also making substantial investments in Mannheim and expanding a new production site in Waiblingen.
Strengthening SiSiC expertise in Selb
With an investment of around eight million euros, the cold isostatic press (CIP) from a leading machinery manufacturer represents the largest single investment in the site’s history and expands Kyocera’s manufacturing capabilities for large-format components made from high-performance ceramics. This new press has been installed in a purpose-built hall, whose construction began back in 2023. It enables the on-site production of large-format and highly complex ceramic components. The press is used particularly for components made from silicon-infiltrated silicon carbide (SiSiC), a material characterised by its high strength, temperature resistance and wear resistance. Additionally, the system can be flexibly utilised for other ceramic materials, such as sintered silicon carbide (SSiC).
“The new press represents an important strategic step for the Selb site. It enables us, for the first time, to manufacture large-volume components from silicon-infiltrated silicon carbide to a standard of quality and in dimensions that were previously unattainable,” says Dr Carsten Rußner, President of KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH.
With this new facility, Kyocera is expanding its manufacturing capacity for applications in demanding future markets, particularly in the semiconductor industry, where requirements in terms of size, precision and material performance are constantly increasing.

Expansion of the production capacity in Mannheim
Alongside its investments in Selb, Kyocera has also been continuously expanding its Mannheim site since 2024. In total, more than 30 million euros have already been invested in new production capacity as well as in a modern administration, production and logistics building.
The new campus provides ideal conditions for further growth and strengthens Mannheim’s position as the European headquarters of Kyocera’s Fineceramics Division. The investments respond to the growing demand for high-performance ceramics, which are used in numerous future-oriented sectors, ranging from semiconductor manufacturing and energy and medical technology to high-tech industrial applications.
Medical device manufacturing in Waiblingen
The Japanese company is also investing in Waiblingen, Germany, where it has built a state-of-the-art production facility for medical ceramic solutions for the newly established KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH. Among other things, the site manufactures BIOCERAM AZUL® high-performance ceramic ball heads for orthopaedic implants. The first phase of construction involved investments of around 30 million euros. With highly automated production processes, intelligent material flows and modern sustainability standards, the plant now forms the basis for Kyocera’s continued growth in the international medical technology market.

Through its investments in Selb, Mannheim and Waiblingen, KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH pursues the aim of further expanding its technological leadership and sustainably strengthening the competitiveness of its European sites. Particularly, the expansion of the production capacity in the field of high-performance ceramics is intended to further strengthen the technological capabilities of the European sites.
