KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH at ACHEMA 2024: Development partner for application-oriented high-performance ceramics

This year, Kyocera will once again be represented with a wide range of technical ceramic solutions at the world’s leading trade fair for the international process industry, which will be held in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from 10 to 14 June.

Kyoto/London, 05. June 2024. Customers constantly provide companies with new challenges. In mechanical and plant engineering, such challenges regularly involve new requirements for materials and manufacturing processes. With their outstanding material properties, technical ceramics offer innovative solutions that go far beyond the possibilities of conventional materials.

Advantages over metals and plastics

The special properties of technical ceramics include the following:

  • Their extraordinary hardness and torsional resistance
  • Their high temperature resistance (especially with sudden temperature changes)
  • Their resistance to abrasion and corrosion

The specific performance characteristics of technical ceramics, such as aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, silicon nitride or zirconium oxide, have long earned them a place in applications where the focus is on minimal wear and high reliability. This applies, for example, to sealing elements and agitators for acids and alkalis, but also to components for compressors, pumps and turbines in the cryogenic or high-temperature range.

Application-orientated component development from a single source

Kyocera Fineceramics envisions itself as a development partner to the process industry, not only by offering advice on selecting suitable high-performance ceramics, but also by developing and producing the various interworking components of a machine or system, especially when different base materials are used. In this way, additional energy and resource savings can be achieved.

For example, ceramic containment shells in magnetic drive pumps can prevent electrical eddy currents and increase the efficiency of the pumps by up to 20 per cent.

Global purchasing and customer-oriented supply chains

“The manufacturing industry is going through profound change. New suppliers need to be identified and new supply chains established. At the same time, compliance guidelines and increased energy costs have to be taken into account”, stresses Dr Carsten Russner, President of KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH. “Our advantage as a global producer of high-performance ceramics is that we have been organising our purchasing worldwide for a long time and have been investing in new production facilities in recent years. This is now a benefit for our customers.”
